Global Bike Ride To Work Day

Employers who ensure their employees have access to bike stands may have observed Global Bike Ride to work day on 11 May.

Sporting social media network Strava is hosting this year’s event, after last year’s success in 2016 where 79,879 cyclists across 180 countries reported cycling to work on that day.

(If you haven’t already heard of Strava it allows sporty types to upload their latest stats to the social media site to share with followers!)

Simon Klima of Strava said: ‘By hosting this Challenge for the second year, we hope to see an even greater movement of cyclists take to the roads,’

‘We want to continue to show our commitment and give back to the worldwide community, aiming to make our towns and cities better.’

Of course, Global Bike Ride to work day brings with it World Naked Bike Ride. A major fixture in towns all over the UK, one of the biggest cycles is expected to take place in Brighton.

It is a global protest against cars, but is also a form of body positive movement designed to bring a bit of cheer wherever they go. Its statement is ‘to deliver a vision of a cleaner, safer, body-positive world”.

Many cities saw groups of over 100 turn up last year, and though full nudity is optional, most of the cyclists do chose to go the full Monty.

Some of the events are happening later this month, so if you missed them check out upcoming dates at Total Womens Cycling.
